On october 16th, 2016 Shanghai Pudong International Women’s Half-03athon Race was held in Pudong. 133 enthusiastic volunteers from Lixin University went to two service stations on Expo Avenue and served over 5,000 female runners who participated in the race.

At 4 o’clock in the morning, 133 volunteers, who wore yellow volunteers’ uniforms, started off from Minxue Road and Xinyuan. They arrived at the service stations before 5 and started preparations for services right away. When the starting gun for half-marathon fired under the Oriental Pearl Tower at 7 o’clock, over 5,000 runners began their race with light gait and headed south to Shanghai Oriental Sports Center along Binjiang 1st Road. At 7:16, 4 athletes, guided by the guiding car, reached the five-kilometer checkpoint. There, well-prepared volunteers served them with functional drinks in time. “Athletes have already passed the 5-kilometer station. Volunteers in the next station, please be prepared!” Supervisors paid close attention to the flow of competitors. With signals passing on in proper order, all athletes obtained timely services.

At about 7:20, a crowd of athletes reached the 5-kilometer and 7.5-kilometer checkpoint. To save time for athletes, volunteers served the prepared supplies right on their hands. At about 8:10, all service stations stopped service. However, volunteers didn’t leave until they cleaned the garbage around the stations and cleared up all remaining materials there.

Besides, Lixin also sent a special volunteer for the race, Gao Ge from the School of Foreign Languages. As an escort interpreter for foreign athletes, Gao accompanied foreign athletes going through all procedures like getting familiar with the venue and taking doping control. With her help, three foreign athletes successfully completed the race.
