On august 31, the Modern Payment and Internet Finance Research Center of our university held the High Level Seminar on Development of Fintech and Talent Training & the Second Session of the First Board of Directors. The seminar was jointly undertaken by the Modern Payment and Internet Finance Research Center and Shanghai Payment & Clearing Association. Secretary of the Party Committee Li Shiping and President Tang Haiyan attended the seminar. Experts and scholars from the circles of politics, industry, university, and research institutions thoroughly discussed the development trend, philosophy and mode of supervision, and requirements to talents from the fintech industry as well as the training mode of talents majoring in fintech. The seminar was presided over by Tang Haiyan.
During the seminar, Duan Chaoliang, President of China Construction Bank Shanghai Branch, argued that the development of fintech has brought new philosophy to the development of traditional banks and the traditional banks welcome the cooperation, development and mutual benefits in the field of modern payment; Ji Jiayou, Associate Counsel and Director of the First Financial Service Department of People’s Bank of China Shanghai Headquarter, proposed to deepen the research on the development of fintech, by focusing on the application of solutions, carrying out extensive and diversified researches, and offering more social services; Tang Haiyan believed that the integration of technologies and finance and its rapid development to a double-edged sword, which feature more attention, more disputes and lack of talents, and proposed immediate in-depth researches and talent training; Hu Youlian, President of the Bank of Shanghai, suggested that we should clarify the past, present and future of Internet finance and fintech industry, and especially focusing on the researches on problems existed in the foundation and application; Wang Hongwei, former president of Shanghai Finance University, analyzed the demand for talents arising from the development of fintech in terms of teaching, students and teaching materials, and talked about the path dependence of talent cultivation in universities; Sun Wei, Vice President of China Construction Bank Shanghai Branch, introduced a number of problems faced by the traditional banks during their transformation period, the supporting role of science and technologies in the consolidation, development and reform of banking industry, and the demand for forward-looking talent cultivation and training; Zhou Jinhuang, Vice President of Shanghai Huarui Bank, emphasized the importance of the “platform concept” in the development of financial technologies and advocating multi-specialty and interdisciplinary talent cultivation and joint training; Li Zhenhua, Vice President of Ant Financial Services Group Research Institute, profoundly explained the development and trend of fintech industry, predicted the future space for win-win cooperation, and made suggestions on the cultivation of top talents and ordinary talents; Chen Jian, President of Shanghai Fuiou Financial Services Group, highlighted the importance of “making well preparations” for the challenges arising from the rapid development of financial technologies, and suggested cooperative patterns like joint research project, joint talent cultivation, joint textbook compilation and joint laboratory. Among others, Secretary of the Party Committee Zheng Shenfang, of Shanghai University of Medicine & Health Sciences, Vice President Chen Qichang of Agricultural Bank of China Shanghai Branch, Vice President Li Lianquan of Shanghai Pudong Development Bank Shanghai Branch, President Mu Haijie of Shanghai Huifu Data Services Co., Ltd., President Li Xiaofeng of China UnionPay Merchant Services Co., Ltd., and Secretary General Chen Ximing of Shanghai Payment & Clearing Association also share their opinions on the development of financial technologies and talent cultivation.
Modern Payment and Internet Finance Research Center is a research platform open for cooperation among government, industry, universities, and research institutions, which is jointly initiated by Lixin University and People’s Bank of China Shanghai Headquarters (First Financial Service Department) and jointly established by Shanghai Bank and China Financial Information Center with several participating financial institutions. This session of the board of directors aims to better promote the center’s specific researches on the construction of modern payment and Internet finance, talent cultivation highland, academic exchange center and social service platform, and provide more intellectual supports for the construction of international financial center, the financial reform and innovation of Pilot Free Trade Zone and the development of payment and Internet finance industry in Shanghai.
