On september 26, the “20th GFCI (Global Financial Centers Index) Release & Shanghai International Financial Center Construction Round-Table Conference”, guided by Shanghai Financial Services Office and jointly held by Lixin Yniversity and CEIBS Lujiazui Institute of International Finance, was held in Lujiazui. President Tang Haiyan addressed the conference on behalf of the sponsor and Vice President Gu Xiaomin delivered a speech on the cultivation of financial talents. This is for the first time that GFCI was released in Shanghai. More than 80 senior officers of various leaders in finance industry, such as Zheng Yang, Secretary of CPC Shanghai Financial Work Committee and Director of Shanghai Financial Services Office, and 03k Yeandle, Vice President of Britain Z/Yen Corporation attended the conference. 30 mainstream media home and abroad covered the activities.
Tang Haiyan extended a warm welcome to all participating guests, reviewed 20 years of development of Shanghai since the construction of Shanghai International Financial Center became a national strategy, and deemed the growth of Chinese economy as the source power for the development of Shanghai International Financial Center, the reform of financial market as the institutional guarantee of the development of Shanghai International Financial Center, and opening-up as the key for Shanghai to become a global financial center. In the next five years, the construction of Shanghai International Financial Center will be confronted with four major tasks, i.e. opening wider to the outside world while maintaining financial stability; further improving the monitoring system of financial market; accelerating financial innovation; and improving legal environment. He believed that the construction of Shanghai International Financial Center will realize critical breakthrough.
Gu Xiaomin made a speech on the cultivation of talents for Shanghai International Financial Center. She believed that the construction of Shanghai International Financial Center had its advantages and characteristics as well as shortcomings and disadvantages. The financial talents in Shanghai cannot satisfy the demands for the construction of Shanghai International Financial Center in terms of quantity, level and structure. From the perspective of the cultivation of talents in universities, it is required to innovate the cultivation mode of financial talents, combine the order-based cultivation with the demands of enterprises, and encourage universities to run branch schools in foreign countries and to expand paths to operate schools.
The conference also invited several domestic and foreign experts and scholars, including President Dave Jones of SPD Silicon Valley Bank, Deputy Chief Executive Jorge Tapia of Santander Bank Asia Pacific Region, President Shen Minggao of Caixin Insight, and Chief Economist Lin Caiyi of Guotai 06an Securities, held round table dialogue on the construction of Shanghai International Financial Center during the period of “13th Five Year Plan”.
Since 2007, Z/Yen Corporation began to establish GFCI with the support of the City of London. GFCI is the most widely used assessment system of financial center city in the international financial industry. It is regularly updated on 03ch and 09tember every year to objectively indicate the change of the competitiveness of financial centers. At present, it assesses more than 80 financial center cities in the world. This is the 20th issue of this index. In the latest ranking, London, New York, Singapore and Hong Kong are the top four cities. Ranking the 16th, Shanghai is the highest ranking financial center city in mainland China. Shenzhen and Beijing, ranking 22nd and 26th respectively, are also included in this index among other cities in mainland China.
