A Delegation Led by the President of Ireland Athlone Institute of Technology Visited Lixin University

On october 17th, President Tang Haiyan and Vice President Chen Jingying met with Professor Ciaran O Cathain, President of Ireland Athlone Institute of Technology, and Director Jack Meng of AIT Office China. International Exchange Office also took part in the reception.

Tang Haiyan extended a warm welcome to all visitors from Ireland Athlone Institute of Technology and exchanged her opinions with Professor Cathain on communication and cooperation between two institutes. Both parties deemed this conversation as a good opportunity to establish cooperative relationship in professional fields like commerce, accounting, statistics, information technology, and big data, as well as to strengthen the communication on teaching, scientific research and students’ overseas exchange and study programs. During the meeting, Professor Cathain introduced the current development of AIT and proposed an alliance based on their respective strengths in different disciplines.

Chen Jingying introduced the current situation and development planning of the international exchange and cooperation programs of Lixin. The two parties discussed the exchange program between postgraduate students and the cooperation in terms of technology, intelligence, and network security. They reached a consensus that they should gradually deepen cooperation between each other by concrete measures like implementing student exchange programs and jointly running schools.

Founded in 1970, Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) mainly offers education and training to stimulate the development of economy, technology, science, commerce, industry, society and culture in Ireland (especially central Ireland). AIT sets up courses according to the demands for economic development on the regional, national and international level. With four schools, namely Business School, Department of Lifelong Learning, School of Engineering and School of Science, AIT offers various kinds of bachelor, master and Ph.D. programs. In light of regular courses and overall scale, AIT ranks the second and the third among all 14 institutes of science and technology in Ireland respectively. And its postgraduate program ranks the second among all public universities in Ireland.
