Delegation of Australian RMIT University Visited Lixin

On navember 2nd, a delegation of RMIT University led by accounting Professor Steven Dellaportas visited Songjiang Campus of Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance and China Accounting Museum, and gave a special lecture. Vice President Chen Jingying received and exchanged ideas with the distinguished guests.

Chen Jingying first extended a warm welcome to Professor Steven Dellaportas and his colleagues on behalf of Lixin. Then, Chen introduced the current situation and future planning of the newly merged university in terms of discipline construction, professional development, students enrollments, faculties, and scientific researches, and expressed her wish to consolidate and deepen the cooperation with original partners, especially RMIT University. The two parties reached a consensus on the cooperation on the construction of accounting history research center. 

Steven Dellaportas introduced the status of RMIT University among Australian and international universities as well as its scientific research output, and dominant specialties like accounting and finance. He also spoke highly of the museum of accounting in Lixin and expressed the wish to carry out deeper cooperation with Lixin in the future.

In the afternoon, Steven Dellaportas held a special lecture in No.2 Meeting Room in the library, explaining the interdisciplinary advantages and social impacts of accounting and introducing the research on and development of accounting history. Afterwards, faculties and students had in-depth communication and exchanges.

As one of the higher education institutions with the longest history in Australia, RMIT University has four specialties ranking top 100 in the world, namely accounting, finance, engineering, and civil engineering. The accounting department of RMIT University gathered several accounting history experts with significant international influence, including Professor Garry D. Carnegie and Professor Lee D. Parker, editors-in-chief of Journal Accounting History. The study of “new accounting history” created by them has great international influence.
