Delegation Led by Vice President of Niagara University Visited Lixin

On january 3, the delegation of Niagara University, consisting of Kevin G Creagh, Vice President of Niagara University, Deborah T Curtis, Director of Language Culture and Leadership and Li Tianbao, Professor and Dean of College of Business Administration, visited Lixin, and was warmly received by Lixin President Tang Haiyan and Vice President Chen Jingying.

As pointed out by President Tang Haiyan, Lixin attaches great importance to the cooperative relationship with Niagara University, and, considering the similarities between the two universities in terms of discipline setting and many other aspects, Tang hopes that the two universities will deepen their cooperation in terms of teacher exchange & training, cooperative academic research, student exchange and so forth. In view of the advantages of the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) training certificate and TEFL master degree program offered by Niagara University, Vice President Chen Jingying proposed that the two parties could jointly launch an all-English teacher training program, and incorporate TESL training contents into such training program. Mr. Creagh agreed to the launching of related training program based on the requirements and conditions of Lixin. Chen Jingying also engaged in discussions with the delegation about the development of cooperative academic research programs in the fields of applied economics, supply chain management, scientific & technological finance and so forth, the joint advising of Ph.D. candidates by both Chinese and foreign advisors and so on, and they reached a consensus about further cooperation. Pei Zhen, Dean of Lixin School of International Economics and Trade, also attended the meeting with related personnel of International Exchange Office.

Located in the beautiful Lewiston of Upstate New York, Niagara University has a long history of 160 years. As a well-known US private university recognized by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, it consists of a main campus in the U.S. and a campus in Canada, has four colleges (i.e., the college of liberal arts, the business college, the college of education and the college of tourism management), and is qualified to confer bachelor, master and Ph.D. degrees.

Since the establishment of cooperative relationship in 2014, the two universities have cooperated in student exchange, master program (3-year undergraduate education in Lixin + 0.5-year exchange education in Niagara + 1.5-year master education), faculty visit and many other aspects. Currently two Lixin students are studying under the cooperative exchange program between the two universities, and three Lixin teachers are serving as visiting scholars in Niagara University. In addition, Professor Li Tianbao has been offered tenure as a well-known foreign teacher of Lixin.
