A Cultural Experience Tour to Wuxi

School of International Exchange of Shanghai Finance University organized aone-day sightseeing tour for its overseas students on April 11 to Wuxi, thefamous tourist city in Jiangsu Province.

Thestudents showed huge interest in the event, and they raised a variety ofquestions on the way to Wuxi. Some students were interested in the historystories from the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin, while others were quitecurious about the ancient architecture seen on the journey.

Thefirst stop was the water margin city, a park of a TV production base which hascreated plenty of vistas as the Chinese classical novel “Water margin”described. The magnificent landscapes and classical architectures haveattracted the admiration of many visitors.

Atthe same time, an acrobatic performance also caught the overseas students’attention. The performers dressed in traditional martial arts costumes andperformed breathtaking stunts such as “super blasting” and “burn the livingman”. The stunning performance received the praise of everyone present.

Afterthat, students wandered around the Qingming Riverside Street, a place whichcopied landscapes from the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Sometimes they stopped andstood along the road to observe the exquisite ancient crafts such asembroidery, tea art, and fan folding.

Thenthe students enjoyed traditional Chinese dishes in the Sun Shangxiang, arestaurant named after the famous character in “Water margin”. It providesseats with the best views for tourists to enjoy the food and beautiful scenery.The teacher from the International Exchange Office also introduced some basicChinese table manners to the foreign students. 

“Allthe dishes are nice to eat and I want to try more Chinese food on the nextschool tour,” a student from Africa said.

Afterthe lunch break, students visited the Three Kingdoms city, a theme park whichis modeled on the ancient Chinese battlefields of the second century. Theyexperienced riding on war horses and cruising on Taihu lake.

“I liked the boating trip on Taihu lake and it is myfirst time to board a warship,” said a visitor.

Through the tour, all thetourists enhanced their language learning with some Chinese dialect. Thestudents gave the thumbs up to this event and look forward to taking part inthe next journey to experience more Chinese culture and history.
