On the occasion of the Belgian Economic Mission to the People’s Republic of China, presided by Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium, Representative of His Majesty the King, on November 20th, Dr. Colette Malcorps (a mission member and the Vice Chancellor of EPHEC University College) visited Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance. Prof. Gu Xiaomin, the Vice President, together with the heads of the International Office and the Graduate Students Office of SLU, received and met the guest.
Vice President Gu Xiaomin sincerely welcomed Vice Chancellor Colette Malcorps, briefly introduced the current condition and scale of the University, and emphasized the establishment of inter-disciplines which introduced big data, artificial intelligence and cloud computing to the traditional financial and accounting programs as well as their work with international exchanges. Vice Chancellor Colette said that since the signing of the framework cooperation agreement between EPHEC and SLU in May 2016, the two universities had exchanged more than 10 students, all with excellent feedback for the program. In June of this year, EPHEC welcomed our delegation in Brussels, which was the first Chinese university delegation hosted by EPHEC. She detailed that EPHEC had promoted applications, small classes, and practical education and establishment of strategic partnerships with more than 650 companies and over 150 universities, hoping to implement intentional cooperation projects between the two parties to the benefit of both teachers and students. In addition, since Belgium has a large number of business and trade export needs, Chinese teaching is also urgently needed to facilitate cooperation between EPHEC and our University. Dr. Colette hoped that our University could share the resources of Chinese professional courses and give teachers support.
Vice Chancellor Colette said that she was very happy to see that EPHEC and SLU share the same vision, mission and development plan. The two sides can further cooperate and research teachers’ and students’ exchanges, short-term projects, joint training programs, and EPHEC’s introduction of SLU Chinese taught academic courses, and determine the plan for promoting the next projects.
In addition, Vice Chancellor Colette also revealed that Belgium has officially joined the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in July of this year. Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium visited the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in Beijing on November 18th, officially marking Belgium’s willingness to strengthen the joint construction of the Belt and Road with China. She also looks forward to our next visit to EPHEC. Prof. Gu said that the two universities could take this opportunity to further deepen their educational cooperation relationship, promote teacher-student exchanges, scientific research cooperation, and joint implementation of training projects.
EPHEC was founded in 1969 in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Currently, there are programs for e-commerce, accounting, marketing, etc. and professional and business practice courses jointly organized with industry professionals.
On the evening, Prof. Gu Xiaomin and the heads of the International Office and the Graduate Students Office were invited to attend the official Shanghai reception of the Belgian Economic Mission to the People’s Republic of China presided by Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium, Representative of His Majesty the King.
