Between September 2ndand 15th, a delegation of Chiba University of Commerce (Japan) came to Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance for a two-week cultural investigation and Chinese study program. The participating students were the freshmen of the double-degree “3+1 Studying in China” program started SLU and Chiba University of Commerce since 2014.

The International Office (Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office), School of International Exchange & Confucius Institute carefully planned the activities and comprehensively arranged the study and cultural experiences for the visiting students. Chinese teachers taught the students in accordance with their aptitudes through stratified teaching. They applied situational teaching, learning, and practicing methods to improve the students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. In addition to the Chinese language class, the Chinese cultural experience class of Tai Chi Chuan has also been greatly welcomed. The students also visited the Yu Garden, Shanghai Museum, Jing’an Temple, Xintiandi (New World Shanghai Hotel), Tianzifang, China Arts Museum, Shanghai Tower and Lujiazui, and tasted Shanghainese cuisine. Through the cultural exploration of Hangzhou, the students also tasted Longjing Tea, learned about Chinese tea culture, and got to learn about Buddhism in China through a visit to the Lingyin Temple.

During the nearly two weeks of study, practice, and life in China, the students learned and practiced in simulated scenarios that improved their listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through cultural explorations outside of the classroom, the students have experienced Chinese culture, gained a deeper understanding of our University, Shanghai, and China, and became more interested in the profoundity Chinese culture. The academic visit has played a positive role in promoting Chinese language teaching and strengthening the exchange of youth education between China and Japan.

On the afternoon of 15th, the School of International Exchange held a simple and warm completion ceremony to review the achievements of the past two weeks. At the ceremony, the students expressed their appreciation for the international metropolis and the friendly and inclusive atmosphere in Shanghai. The experience has strengthened their determination to study Chinese and to further study in SLU. Ms. Lang Yingjun (the deputy director of the International Office) expressed her good wishes for the students, hoping that they will return to Japan with new achievements, a stronger friendship between the two schools, our blessings, and a commitment to continue learning Chinese well. She also hoped that they can actively support the long-term exchange and cooperation initiatives between the two schools and for both sides to enhance mutual understanding, build trust, and develop friendship through future programs.
