The Opening Ceremony for the 2020 Ethnic Minority Preparatory Class

On the afternoon of October 14th, the School of Humanities and Arts held an Opening Ceremony for the students of the 2020 Ethnic Minority Preparatory Class on the Pudong campus. Huang Min (the secretary of the general Party branch of the School of Humanities and Arts), Yao Huilan (the deputy secretary of the general Party branch and deputy dean; administration work), Chen Songli (the deputy secretary of the general Party branch and deputy dean), Xu Xiaoqing (the deputy dean), the instructors for the Ethnic Minority Class, some teacher and student representatives, and all the freshmen of the 2020 Ethnic Minority Preparatory Class attended the Ceremony presided over by Chen Songli.

Yao Huilan extended a warm welcome to the students from all ethnic groups, and expected them to educate good study habits, maintain high learning enthusiasm, and strive to be the youth with ideals and strong convictions in the new era. She reminded the students to establish strict requirements on themselves and constantly improve themselves. In beautiful SLU, students from all ethnic groups are close together like pomegranate seeds, staying true to the mission and facing difficulties bravely.

Huang Min introduced the history of SLU and the characteristics of the preparatory training, and encouraged the students to make breakthroughs, accept new environments, new things, and new knowledge, progress towards a wider world geographically, ideologically, and spiritually, and grow and develop continuously to better build the motherland and hometown in the future. Besides, she proposed the expectations for the students, hoping that they would cultivate the consciousness of the Chinese nation community, increase their political awareness, strengthen the correct political position, and deeply learn the theories of “the Han nationality cannot be separated from the ethnic minorities, the minority nationalities cannot be separated from the Han nationality, and the ethnic minorities cannot be separated from each other” and “the recognition of the great motherland, the Chinese nation, Chinese culture, the Communist Party of China, and socialism with Chinese characteristics”, strengthen national unity, obey the school rules and regulations, read more books and think more, stay true to the mission, and forge aheadon the road of dreams!

Naisibai (a student of the 2020 Minority Preparatory Class 2) delivered a speech, expressing his joy and excitement. On behalf of all the ethnic minority freshmen, he expressed the gratitude to the teachers and seniors for their meticulous care and help, and expressed that they would cherish the precious time and improve themselves at all rounds. The Ceremony went with the class teacher appointment ceremony and the freshmen integrity oath. Huang Min and Chen Songli were appointed as the class teachers of the two 2020 preparatory classes.


The students of the 2020 Ethnic Minority Preparatory Class are the third batch trained by SLU in a localization mode. There are 76 students from all over the country, including 19 ethnic nationalities (Uygur, Kazakh, Hui, Mongolian, Kirgiz, Bai, Tu, Tujia, Tibetan, Buyi, Naxi, Miao, Lisu, Mulao, Yao, Yi, Manchu, Hani, and Zhuang Nationalities). Students of all the ethnic groups will start a rich and fulfilling preparatory period in SLU.
