On July 22nd, the Academy of Europe (Academia Europaea) released a notice that Professor Hou Wenxuan (the academic leader of the Applied Economics of SLU) was elected as an academician of the Academy. Professor Hou also serves as the chairman of the RSE Young Academy of Scotland, where he focuses on corporate finance, institutions and development, and relevant researches.

The Academy of Europe, headquartered in London, UK, was initiated by the ministers of sciences of European countries and co-sponsored by the Royal Society (the UK) and other national academies representing the highest academic level in European countries. Covering the fields of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and science and technology, it is one of the most extensive, academically high-ranking and influential cross-regional scientific organizations in the world.

Among the 3000+ academicians of the Academy, there are 74 Nobel Prize winners. The academicians are mainly selected from the academicians of the European countries (representing the most outstanding scientific elites and academic authorities in humanities, social science, material science, life science, mathematics, engineering and medicine) as well as scientists who have long-term close cooperation with Europe. The candidates are first recommended to the Department of Science by academicians from different countries and then to the Nomination Committee for communication review after the Department’s preliminary review, and then go through the review of the Special Committee of the Academy of Europe before being elected academicians with the title of MAE.
