On December 21, the 6th Council of the IBA-SLU Confucius Institute was held online. President Yang Li (Vice Chair of the University Council) was invited to deliver a speech. Also attended the Conference were Niels Egelund (President of Danish International Business Academy), Gu Xiaomin (Vice President of SLU), Chinese and foreign council members, and the foreign president and teachers of the Confucius Institute. The Conference was presided over by Tu Liping (Director of the International Office and Dean of the School of International Exchange).

Yang Li extended his sincere greetings to all council members and praised the achievements of the Confucius Institute over the past five years. He hopes that the two universities would highlight the business characteristics of the Institute as well as promoting language and cultural exchanges, further strengthening the inter-university cooperation in discipline development, scientific research, academic exchanges, and mobility programs for teachers and students.

Professor Gu Xiaomin expressed her gratitude to the Danish party for their engagement in the transfer-related affairs, online student enrollment and teaching in the Institute. Also, she thanked the foreign party and the teachers for their hard work during the COVID-2019 pandemic. In 2021, SLU launched the “Chinese Bridge” program to support the teaching work of the Institute. She hopes that the two universities can, in a sustainable way, work together to deepen exchanges and cooperation in various aspects through the platform of the Confucius Institute.

The Conference attendees reviewed the five-year cooperation history of the Confucius Institute. Niels Egelund recognized the joint efforts made by Chinese and Danish parties. He expressed the hope that the two universities will strengthen online communication and cooperation and create a friendly and win-win situation for the international exchanges. He reported the 2020 work summary and final accounts, and presented the 2021 work plan and financial budget. Besides, the council members of both sides discussed the future development direction of the Institute and other work concerning core teachers, inter-university cooperation and such.

With the continuous development of international Chinese language education, both parties of the Institute will carry out closer and more diversified cooperation to promote the language and cultural exchanges between China and Denmark, enhance the friendship between the two peoples, and make joint efforts to create a new future.
