From 12th to 18th, May, serialactivities of Chinese cultural experience were held for foreign students underthe organization of School of International Exchange. About 100 foreignstudents from about 20 countries, such as USA, France, Denmark, Poland, Russia,Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania, Ghana, Togolaise, took part in theseactivities. Three themes of this activity, namely, Chinese calligraphy andpaper-cutting, Chinese food, Sino-foreign students salon, gave a full play ofthe elegance and charm of traditional Chinese culture.
Many foreign students were attracted by Chinesecalligraphy and paper-cutting. With a deep interest in Chinese calligraphy, theforeign students showed their love of Chinese culture with traditional Chinesewriting brush. The foreign students were also very curious about Chinesepaper-cutting. When gaining the basic paper-cutting skills after watching andpracticing the whole afternoon, the foreign student scissored beautiful windowdecorations and Double Happiness (a Chinese character) with scissorsimmediately.
Duringthe Chinese food activity, at the very beginning, teachers gave a vividintroduction to Chinese food from the following six aspects, namely theconnotation and charm of Chinese food, Chinese food raw materials and dietstructure of Chinese people, eight cuisines of Chinese food, naming methods ofChinese food, traditional Chinese festival food, food and language. After that,under the lead of teachers, the foreign students went to Chinese restaurant,watching the way to make Chinese Jiaozi and making Chinese Jiaozi bythemselves. All the foreign students showed a satisfied smile at the first timeof eating Chinese Jiaozi made by their own hands.
The Chinese culture week reached it climax at theSino-foreign students salon. Foreign students and Chinese had a closedcommunication, laughing and talking the cultural differences between China andother countries. Frede, a foreign student from France said “I love this kind ofactivity very much; it can not only improve my Chinese, but can also let melearn more Chinese culture”.
Theseserial actives of Chinese culture Week, making a full use of on-campus practicebase platform, can not only let foreign students have a closed understandingand experience of the charm of Chinese culture, but can also promote theSino-foreign students’ communication and make a friendship bridge for theSino-foreign students. This activity won unanimous applause from the studentsand they hoped school to hold more activities like this in the future to enrichtheir study life in China.
