Introduction
The University of Missouri-Columbia is the main campus as well as the most powerful and prestigious campus of the University of Missouri. It ranks alongside Washington University in St. Louis, another private university in the State. It is also one of 34 public Universities in the Association of American Universities (AAU), and the State’s only AAU member with the title of “a doctoral/lateral research university” rated by the Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching. Across the United States, there are only more than 30 universities with the same double titles, so it wins the reputation of “a public Ivy League school”.
There are now about 30,000 students enrolled from the counties of Missouri and other States and more than 100 other countries. The University offers more than 270 programs of undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees through more than 20 schools and colleges. It is one of only six public universities in the United States that offer medicine, veterinary medicine, and law education on a campus. The University is also well known for its agriculture, life sciences and journalism programs.
