To prepare for the 93rd anniversary of the founding of Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance (SLU) and its first Congress of the CPC, provide better academic disciplines and scientific research for the society, create a better on-campus academic atmosphere, promote academic interaction between faculty and students and their academic innovation, and carry forward the scientific spirit, the kickoff ceremony for SLU’s first academic activity month and the symposium on cultural differences and the progress in combating COVID-19 from an international perspective were held in the afternoon on October 27th. The event was attended by Vice President of SLU Chen Jie, head of SLU’s business administration Professor Li Zhen, faculty members from the SLU Department of Research & Discipline Development, and the faculty members and students from each school or college (research institute) of SLU. The kickoff ceremony was facilitated by head of the SLU Department of Research & Discipline Development Chen Shuanghua.

In her speech, Chen Jie talked about the need to encourage cultural development and increase China’s cultural soft power as proposed at the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, and said that academic study and cultural continuity are key tasks for universities and integral parts of their high-level development and that universities have to adopt an innovative approach to cultural continuity. In recent years, SLU has been pressing ahead with scientific research and academic disciplines, remained committed to scientific research innovation as the driver to the prosperity of SLU, and worked hard to provide better services for the society. The Academic Activity Month is aimed at creating an academic campus culture that encourages scientific research and humanity and providing an opportunity for SLU faculty and students to engage in academic communication. The purpose is to create a positive academic campus culture at SLU that motivates the faculty to get involved in developing academic disciplines and conducting scientific research, improve SLU’s scientific research and social services, spark students’ interest in scientific research and increase their capacity of scientific research and innovation.

Professor Li delivered the first academic report for the audience on cultural differences and the progress in combating COVID-19 from an international perspective. By targeting an European country, the report compares the impacts of individualism and collectivism in cultural differences on the progress in combating COVID-19, and has produced outcomes that have significant academic values as to how to win the battle against the coronavirus. Professor Li also had academic communication with the faculty and students after delivering the report.

The Academic Activity Month starts on October 21st and ends on November 30th, during which SLU is to host or organize 15 workshops and fora and hold 37 lectures, such as “Development of a Socialist Modern Country and Common Prosperity”, “CSAE Annual Conference 2021”, “Press Release for the Blue Paper on Shanghai Business Environment (2020-2021) and Workshop on Improving Shanghai Business Environment”, “The First New Arts, New Technology and New Accounting Forum”, where well-known domestic and international experts and scholars will discuss how to better implement National and local major strategies. Domestic and international experts and scholars from Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing University, Xiamen University, East China University of Science and Technology, University of Southern California and City University of Hong Kong have been invited to SLU to provide guidance and exchange ideas at the lectures and workshops.
