On the afternoon of September 25th, Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance held the Enabling Every Student to See a Bigger World — Soul-Casting and Education Innovation in the Digital Intelligence Era Development Forum and the 2024 Freshman First Class of the Semester at the Shanghai Social Science Hall Multifunctional Hall. Jie Chao, the Party Committee Secretary of the university, attended and delivered a speech, and Wang Junhua, Deputy Party Committee Secretary and Vice President, also attended.

The First Class of the Semester, aimed at all freshmen and conducted both online and offline, invited numerous senior educators, industry leaders, distinguished alumni, young teachers, and student representatives to share their profound insights on soul-casting and education in the digital intelligence era. They discussed how to use modern digital technology to stimulate students' potential development and guide young college students to button up the first button in life.

In his speech, Jie Chao, the Party Committee Secretary, pointed out: Today, we gather by the Pujiang River with high hopes to bring a special 'First Class of the Semester' to 5,044 'Generation Z' freshmen at Lixin. In today's world, the technological revolution and industrial transformation are accelerating, and knowledge innovation is advancing rapidly. Generative artificial intelligence, as a key force leading the transformation, is profoundly reshaping educational teaching forms. He emphasized that universities are the source of knowledge discovery and scientific and technological innovation. From MOOC platforms, smart classrooms, virtual simulation laboratories to intelligent teaching assistants, AI lecturers... when the field of teaching and learning is no longer limited to the three-foot platform and the classroom, the greatness of a university means not only the so-called great buildings and great teachers but also how a university can continue to release the amplifying, superimposing, multiplying, and spillover effects of digital education on high-quality education development. In the two-way rush of technology and education, let every student see a bigger world.

Jie Chao hopes that students can think more cautiously about where youth goes and what universities are for in the digital intelligence era. He urged students to write their youth on the motherland's land, actively integrate their personal small I pursuits into the big I of national development, and strive to grow into a new era of people who can take on the great responsibility of national rejuvenation. Write your youth in the boundless sea of learning, solidify data thinking, improve informatization literacy, and gain the initiative in the future world driven by digital intelligence. Write your youth on the frontier of innovation, be brave enough to break thinking inertia and path dependence, focus on interdisciplinary learning and industry-academia-research practice, and transform youthful wisdom into an endless driving force for forming new quality productivity. Write your youth on the international stage, continuously expand international vision, improve cross-cultural communication skills, and move towards a bigger world.

Yu Lizhong, the Honorary President of Shanghai New York University, gave a keynote report on the theme of Education, Seeing a Bigger World. He shared his university study journey and urged students to learn to learn, choose, and think during their university years. The university dream has made me never give up or be discouraged in any difficulty, and to persist and be optimistic. People need to have 'dreams', everyone has 'dreams', and when we connect our personal 'dreams' with the 'dreams' of society and the world, our personal 'dreams' become more meaningful and greater.

Yu Lizhong told teachers and students that we live in a rapidly changing world. The era of globalization requires future talents to have global competence, including a global vision and understanding of multiculturalism, cross-cultural communication, exchange, and cooperation abilities, and attention to and participation in global issues. The information age requires future talents to have information skills and literacy, including computer, network, mobile communication technology, big data, artificial intelligence technology, etc. The knowledge economy era also requires future talents to have lifelong learning abilities, including learning ability, choice ability, independent and cooperative work ability, etc. To achieve a change in thinking patterns, from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset; to promote a change in learning methods, and build a comprehensive learning platform that combines classroom teaching, online learning, cultural experience, social observation, and research practice; to strengthen the innovation of talent training models, with innovation and creativity cultivation as the core. In addition, Yu Lizhong also encouraged students to discover the value of life in curiosity and interest. He said that human curiosity, interest, imagination, and resilience are particularly important. We need to be problem-conscious, good at discovering problems, and using existing knowledge and skills, learning new knowledge and skills, so that we can break the boundaries of disciplines and find ways to solve problems.
